Nador Joins Morocco

Today, Morocco reports major progress on the Guercif–Nador highway, a 104 km expressway linking the Oriental region to the national motorway network. The Driouch–Nador section, roughly 27 km, is now about 50% complete, with earthworks, backfilling, and asphalt paving actively underway. This milestone is critical, as Nador has long lacked a direct motorway connection to Morocco’s main highways. Meanwhile, the Saka–Driouch segment is under tender, and the Guercif–Saka portion has completed land clearance in preparation for construction. Once fully operational, the highway will drastically reduce travel times, improve goods transport to Nador West Med port, and boost regional economic growth. The project, with an estimated cost of 7.9 billion dirhams, is supported by both national and international funding, including the African Development Bank. By connecting Nador to Morocco’s national road network, this motorway marks a historic moment for the Oriental region, enhancing mobility, trade, and industrial potential. Local communities are already seeing the benefits of improved infrastructure, signaling a new era of connectivity.
